ISLAMABAD: Sunday offered a perfect retreat for the fashion-savvy women of the capital to stock up on their winter clothes. Mariam Pasha, a designer who has been exhibiting for years, held her bi-annual collection for fall/winter collection.

The designer works mainly from home and also deals with tailoring orders. This time, she has chosen to experiment with a lot of fabric and textures: different types of velvets, chiffons and linens. “I am basically trying to incorporate western wear into eastern wear,” Pasha told The Express Tribune.

The designer has used a lot of colour blocking in her ready-to-wear pieces, embellishments and embroideries on tops, jumpsuits, kaftans and dresses. Ayesha, a customer at the exhibition, said, “It’s never easy to find western wear in Pakistan, I bought a palm leaf printed top with a metal embellished detail to wear on New Year’s Eve and I can’t wait to wear it!”

It is evident that Mariam has applied her degree in fashion to deliver western wear with perfect cuts and embellishments. It was refreshing to see such pieces in the capital. There were also semi-formal eastern wear on display, which was selling out really fast too.

In eastern clothing, the prices range from Rs2,000 till Rs15,000, and the western tops range between Rs3,000 till Rs6,000. The first day attracted a large turnover, with tops selling like hot cakes. Tea and chaat were served to the guests. The exhibition will continue till December 19.
