Potohar Rang at PNCA: Amid rain, event becomes case of better late than never

ISLAMABAD:

Despite bad weather and location changes, the “Potohar Rang” folk music programme at PNCA managed to put up an entertaining show, albeit two-and-a-half hours late. With the location moved indoors due to the weather, the management rushed to set up seating in one of the galleries as guests waited patiently for the performances to begin.

All the vocals were in the Potohari dialect that was unintelligible for many, especially the foreign audience at the event, but the showmanship of the performers had everyone rooting for them. Singing performers included Azhar Jafri, Waheed Ahmed, Suleman Sunny, and Asjad Shah, while two short comic skits performed by Kashif Baber, and Saeed Anwar acted as good energisers between the songs.

The PNCA’s own dancing crew was unable to perform at the event due to the lack of space in the gallery, however a colourfully-attired
Gatka group from Jhelum put up a lively song and dance number as they played potohari instrumentals with their dhols and danced.

The eventful night ended on a very high adrenaline note as Asjad Shah and Shehzad Naik performed Dhamal to the dhol, which had locals in the audience tapping their feet to the beat.
