ISLAMABAD:

Compressed natural gas (CNG) dealers have fiercely opposed the exorbitant increase in gas prices, saying it would hit the consumers hard.

According to a press release, All Pakistan CNG Association Central Chairman Ghiyas Abdullah Paracha said the association had called a meeting of its central executive committee to review the situation and decide on the future course of action.

The increase in CNG prices was illogical and unacceptable and would trigger an inflation storm, he warned.

According to a senior official of the Ministry of Petroleum, the government increased CNG prices by around Rs9 to Rs12 per kg. “Countries around the world are rapidly adopting CNG fuel while we are going to ruin this industry,” he said, adding consumers had already been disturbed by three days of suspension in gas sales every week and now the price hike was not less than a bomb.
